I have taught or currently teach Chronic Conditions, Acute and Episodic Care, Adv. Physical assessment, Adv. Pathophysiology, Family Nursing, and all 3 clinical courses. I participate in both Intensives and OSCE’s every semester.
Clinical practice area
My clinical background is in family practice and Internal medicine. Most settings I’ve practiced in are within the community, like FQHC's in Contra Costa and Solano County. As well I have also worked in college health at UC Berkeley.
Community involvement
I am a long time member of the California Association for Nurse Practitioners and a local board member for the Alameda/ Contra Costa Chapter. I have held the position of President, President Elect, Events coordinator and VP of Corporate Affairs on the BOD. I have precepted many FNP students over 20 years in my work places. I have volunteered with the Special Olympics for several years, the Allen Temple Health Fair, community flu shot clinics though the LifeLong clinic. I enjoy networking and have created Faculty Practice sites which enrich students clinical experiences.
Notable affiliations
In addition to teaching, I am actively involved in the California Association for Nurse practitioners locally and at the state level. I have been an annual lobbyer, taking FNP students to the capitol as well. I have been a House of Delegate member, representing the chapter members in state decisions. I am also a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and National Association of Nurse Practitioner Faculty where I presented in 2025. I am also a member of Sigma Theta Tau as well as the Menopause Society.
Selected scholarly highlights
My research focuses primarily on education, learning, and health promotion/prevention. I have presented at CANP and NONPF conferences on board certification preparedness and my DNP project on increasing HPV immunizations through social media. I have also presented on evidence-based HSV management at UC Berkeley. Additionally, I have published in the Journal of Education and authored a chapter on BPH in Clinical Guidelines for Nurse Practitioners.
