About Me

I am married and spend my free time playing golf, hiking, kayaking, jet skiing and spending time with our two beautiful dogs. I am an avid animal lover. I enjoy traveling the world and have visited Europe, Central and South America, the Caribbean, the Greek Isles, Tahiti, Fiji, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. I also enjoy puzzles and games.

Education

I graduated from Florida State University College of Nursing in 1990 with a BSN. Upon graduation, I completed a Critical Care training program and began my career in the Intensive Care Unit. My critical care experience includes cardiac surgery, organ transplant, medical-surgical care, trauma care, and neurological trauma and surgery. In 1998, I transitioned into the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit where I continue to work at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center. In 2006, I graduated with a Master's of Science degree from the UCSF School of Nursing and started my career in academia at Samuel Merritt University.  I also have a certification in Legal Nurse Consulting and have worked on legal cases involving torts and medical malpractice for large law firms.

Teaching Interests

I enjoy teaching critical care nursing, but have also taught health assessment, synthesis (preceptorship), and all of the medical-surgical nursing courses.

Scholarly Interests

For several years, I have worked with Elsevier Publishing editing nursing care plans and the Study Guide for the Medical-surgical Nursing textbook authored by Lewis, Bucher, Heitkemper, Harding, Kwong, and Roberts. In addition,  I have written case studies for the Critical Care Nursing textbook by Urden, Stacy, and Lough.
