About Me

I am an alumna of SMU ELMSN-FNP program, class of 2016. I currently work clinically as a FNP for WellSpace Health. I also am an Associate Medical Director of Primary Care & Clinical Education for WellSpace Health, as well as newly the Associate Director of Nursing at WellSpace Health. I primarily took the job at Samuel Merritt to help to promote the development and training of the next generation of FNP and ensure great providers are entering the currently challenging field of medicine. There is a great need for amazing providers of health care.  I have found that my learning, my growth and my development as a person and a provider is also being challenged by my role as professor and current doctoral candidate. My ultimate goal for myself, my students, my peers both at WellSpace and at SMU, is transformation. Transforming healthcare and patient care with the best evidenced based practice and passion we can muster.

Education

I hold a BS in Gerontology from CSU- Sacramento. I hold an MSN from SMU and FNP certification by the AANP. I am currently a candidate for DNP at SMU.

Teaching Interests

I love practical learning. This is why I love teaching the Clinical Practicum. It allows for real world concepts put into practice and formation of critical thinking, objective understanding of pathophysiology and etiologies of disease, and self assessment of individual bias, strengths and faults. Clinical Practicum is transformative for people who are also clinical providers.

Scholarly Interests

My current interests lie with access. Access is not only dependent on physical space and time, but social determinants of health, and health literacy. Patients are not always aware of when they need to access health care. These factors are generally influenced by their social determinants and general literacy. I am investigating how access to healthcare would change if we a.) increased health literacy for patients and b.) educated providers on social determinants of health of patients.
