About Me

Dr. Janakes was born and raised in San Francisco. He received his Bachelors degree from the University of California Davis before earning his accelerated BSN and MSN in Nurse Anesthesia from Samuel Merritt University and then a Ph.D. from University of Nevada Las Vegas with a research emphasis in simulated ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia learning activities. Before transitioning into nurse anesthesia education, Joe was active in professional advocacy and was President of the California Association of Nurse Anesthetists in 2011-2012. He joined the Program of Nurse Anesthesia faculty in 2013, became Director in 2017. Joe maintains an active clinical practice at the San Leandro Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, enjoys high-risk obstetrical anesthesia and regional anesthesia. In his spare time, he is an avid runner, home chef, and enjoys spending time with his high school sweetheart, and keeping up their four children.
