About Me

I worked as a dialysis RN in 2009 for a couple of years before I transitioned into family practice (FQHC) once I completed my FNP. I worked for the FQHC for about 8 months before I transitioned into internal medicine. At that practice I also learned the art of botox, fillers and sub-acute care. While working in subacute care I rounded on tracheostomy and ventilator dependent patients and treated many conditions including pneumonia, chronic UTIs and sepsis.

I worked full time at that practice for over a year but then transitioned to Capital Nephrology in 2012. I continued to work part time at the internal medicine practice until 2016

At Capital Nephrology I have several different roles. In the past I rounded on in center dialysis patients. However, I am currently focusing on home hemodialysis as well as peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and make monthly rounds on about 80 patients in the dialysis unit. I also am the leader of education at our practice and hold monthly meetings educating patients about dialysis and ways to prevent dialysis. I also see pre chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients in the office as well as post-transplant patients. I am currently participating in the comprehensive Kidney Care Contracting (CKCC) care model which aims to improve outcomes while reducing costs. I have also participated in many studies in the past that Capital Nephrology conducted.

While working at SMU I have taught most of the FNP and DNP courses and am also a DNP chair. I am the vice president of Faculty Organization (FO), chair of the Faculty Affairs (FA) committee, co-chair of the University Curriculum Committee (UCC) and a member of the Faculty Org Executive Committee (FOEC). I am also a part of the commencement planning committee, and an application admissions committee member for both FNP online and for the entry level of master’s in nursing (ELMSN) program. I also precept students at Elica Health Centers and at Capital Nephrology.

Education

I graduated from Samuel Merritt University (SMU) with my RN in 2009 and with my MSN-FNP in 2011. I completed my Doctoral of Nursing Practice (DNP) at SMU in 2019.

Teaching Interests

I really enjoy teaching all of the courses SMU has to offer but I absolutely love teaching the students in person. I love teaching physical assessment in person and love attending intensives that occur every semester. I also have a passion for precepting FNP students both at Elica Healthcare and at Capital Nephrology.

Scholarly Interests

I enjoy anything related to the kidneys and improving outcomes in the CKD/dialysis population
