What they teach

I am part of the team teaching in Interpersonal & Professional Communication Lab PA617, Medicine 1 PA620, Medicine 2 PA621, Emergency Medicine PA626, Integrating Seminar 1-3 PA660-662, and Summative Evaluation PA606.

Clinical practice area

My clinical background is primarily as a PA in emergency medicine. I also have had the opportunity to practice in internal medicine, family medicine, psychiatry, and as a surgical house officer. I have always gravitated toward lower socioeconomic patient populations and found it fulfilling to treat their acute medical conditions and now more complex chronic care to lead healthier lives.

Community involvement

I have actively volunteered providing free family medicine care at local clinics and regional events. As a PA Student Society advisor I have helped students with community service initiatives for free medical care, international medical mission trips, patient education events, and professional advocacy. I seek to model service and support students develop lifelong skills to make our community better.

Notable affiliations

In addition to leading the PA Program at SMU, I currently practice as an internal medicine PA at Santa Rita Jail. I am faculty for the PA Education Association and regularly help run the national Faculty Skills 101 Workshop which supports the next generation of PA faculty. I also serve as a site visitor for ARC-PA, which is the national accreditation body for PA Program providing quality assurance for students and the public.

Selected scholarly highlights

My scholarly work has been focused on PA education and how it translates to students and improving the health of the community. I have been part of teams receiving grants from PAEA, NCCPA, and SAMHSA on efforts to enhance the quality and content in PA education. I have also presented nationally on PA education topics to improve faculty preparation and student preparedness and wellness. Ensuring I am current in medicine, I have presented on best practices on many acute care topics.
