About Me

I have been in healthcare for over 30 years, starting as a nursing assistant.  In my nursing career I have worked at the bedside as a staff nurse, been a manager for a 16 bed pediatric unit, worked in a centralized nursing education department for a stand alone pediatric hospital, and worked as a director of education, clinical practice and nursing professional development at a 145 bed hospital.  All of my experience has enriched me as a teacher.

When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my family, which includes my husband and my daughter.  We love to travel to tropical places and look forward to traveling more in retirement.

Education

1996-Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, Fresno
2012-Master of Science Nursing, Education from Walden University
2019-Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Walden University, practical work focused on competency.

Teaching Interests

I love anything and everything about Pediatrics.  Children have great resilience and I love watching how they handle the adversity of being ill.

As a manager of a pediatric unit, I wanted a few things out of every new hire.  I wanted them to know how to talk to kids, how to assess a kid, and to possess a desire to learn.  No matter where you work, it is so important to have great assessment skills which is why there is a lot of focus on that in pediatrics and why I love teaching health assessment!
