About Me

Having previously served as the Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Faculty Recruitment and Development in 2005 and returning to SMU in 2016 as a Professor and Director of Projects in the DNP program, Dr. Rush has a longstanding history with SMU and invaluable institutional knowledge.
 
Outside of SMU, Dr. Rush served in a variety of nursing teaching and leadership roles including the Director of Undergraduate Programs (UW-Madison), Chair of the Education and Licensure for the State of Wisconsin, Associate and Full Professor of pre-licensure programs (Edgewood College), Dean of Healthcare (Herzing University), and the Vice President for Workforce and Clinical Practice (Wisconsin Hospital Association).
 
Dr. Rush earned his diploma in Nursing (RN) from Augustana Hospital School of Nursing, a BS in Speech Communication from Southern Illinois University, a dual MS in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and his Ph.D. in Nursing from UCSF. A scholar-teacher, Dr. Rush has published and presented on workforce development health equity topics throughout his career.
