What they teach

I teach multiple courses across MSN FNP, ELMSN FNP, and DNP FNP programs. Courses include N6065/6065L/7075/N7075L acute and episodic conditions, N6019 advanced pathophysiology, N6078/6079/6080/7078/7079/7081L FNP clinical practicum courses. I also chair DNP students across multiple DNP Project courses.

Clinical practice area

My clinical practice is in cardiology, with a focus on heart failure and complex cardiovascular conditions in outpatient and inpatient settings. My expertise includes cardiovascular risk reduction, evidence-based treatment, patient self-care education, and improving care transitions and quality of life for patients with heart disease.

Community involvement

Outside SMU, I practice as a cardiology nurse practitioner, caring for patients with complex cardiovascular disease. I serve on Sutter’s Advanced Practice Clinician Council, precept NP students from several universities, and support American Heart Association outreach through community education, advocacy, and fundraising.

Notable affiliations

I practice as a cardiology nurse practitioner with Sutter Health and serve on Sutter’s Advanced Practice Clinician Council. I am also a multi-university NP preceptor, American Heart Association CPR instructor, APEA certification content reviewer, Sigma Theta Tau counselor, and active member of CANP.

Selected scholarly highlights

My scholarship spans heart failure care, FNP education, and responsible use of generative AI. I have published research on NP-led heart failure education, predictor exams and certification success, and AI-based curriculum mapping. I have presented at NONPF, CANP, and AACN conferences and served as principal investigator for more than $500,000 in HCAI Song-Brown workforce-development grants
