HSSC Standardized Patient Application

Thank you for your interest in joining the Standardized Patient program at Samuel Merritt University.  This application is the first step in applying to work with our program.  Once we review your application, we will contact you for an in person interview.  For those actors who are inexperienced in SP work, we will then schedule a training to orient you to our practices and policies.  We look forward to meeting you soon!

1. Personal Profile
2. Demographic Information

At Samuel Merritt University we highly value diversity and inclusion and strive to have an SP pool that reflects the rich diversity of the communities we serve.  When we recruit for specific SMU cases, SPs are matched to the case based on the gender, age, race/ethnicity and physical size of the patient in the scenario.  This is only specified when it has some medical or cultural significance to the learning objectives for the learners.  For these reasons we ask the following questions of all our SP applicants.

Gender Identity Glossary:

Cisgender or Cis:  Someone whose gender identity is the same as the sex they were assigned at birth

Transgender or Trans:  Someone whose gender identity is not the same as the sex they were assigned at birth.
