The delegation will visit the Oakland and San Francisco Peninsula campuses to learn about the role of nursing in U.S. healthcare, asses learning and teaching methods, develop relationships with SMU students and faculty, and learn more about the simulated learning environment.

“While you are here please absorb everything like a sponge,” said Audrey Berman, Dean of the School of Nursing, while welcoming the delegation. “We are honored to have you visit us.”

SCU opened in 1930 as the Bethel Home in Hamamatsu, Japan, helping homeless tuberculosis patients. In 1952 a diploma nursing school was established; and in 1992 Seirei Christopher College of Nursing was established. Currently SCU includes the School of Nursing, the School of Rehabilitation Sciences (PT, OT, and ST), and the School of Social Work.

In November 2013 Samuel Merritt University formalized an exchange program with Seirei Christopher University for the School of Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy programs.

In June 2016, a team of students and faculty from SMU will visit the SCU campus in Japan.
