Samuel Merritt University Libraries have three locations: the Oakland Campus, San Francisco Peninsula Campus in San Mateo, and the Sacramento Valley Campus. Hours vary by location.

Access

The entrance to the library is the first door inside the main entrance of the Health Education Center.
A Samuel Merritt University or Alta Bates Summit Medical Center ID badge is required for entry to the Oakland campus library Monday-Thursday after 5 pm and all day Saturday and Sunday. For problems with SMU ID badges, please contact the Facilities Department Badging Services.

The library is open to visitors Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm.

Library Access

The Oakland campus library is open to the public Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Members of the community, medical center patients and families, students from Bay Area institutions, healthcare professionals, visitors, and others are welcome to use the facilities during these hours. No ID is required for entry.

Books, Videos, and DVDs

These items may be used in the library. Search the catalog to find these items.

Checkout privileges are offered only to patrons affiliated with Samuel Merritt University, Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, or a member library of Northern California Consortium of Psychology Libraries

Databases and ebooks

Many Databases and eBooks that the library licenses can be accessed onsite. Visitors may library computer or through SMU’s Guest WiFi network. Consult library staff for computer access.

Computers

As a courtesy, the Oakland campus library has computers available for use by the public. These computers provide access to the internet; our online databases, journals, and full-text articles; and software programs including Microsoft Office. Ask staff at the circulation desk to log you in as a guest.

Photocopying and Printing

  • Printing and copying is available to visitors at a cost of 10 cents per page. Cash only.

  • Please consult library staff for information on copying and printing.
